Tulum Weather

Tulum weather and the Yucatan Peninsula in general, is hot and sunny all year round! This is why it makes it the perfect getaway during the cold and snowy season that most other places in the world seem to receive.

The average ocean temperature for the year is a warm yet refreshing 26°C (79°F), and the average temperature for the year runs at the same level; along the way its monthly averages rise as high as 32°C (90°F) in the summer and reach a low of 19°C (66°F) in the depths of winter. Below is a breakdown of the different seasons and what to expect whether wise whilst your here.

November – December – January

This is the time of year when it is coolest and the most refreshing. Day time temperatures are at their lowest for the year, but it’s still beach weather and the sun doesn’t stop shinning! The nights can be clear and crisp, with breezes bringing the air temperature down, so light jackets and shawls are recommended in your packing. This is also one of the most popular times of year for people to visit the region.

 February – March – April – May

Here the days are beginning to get longer, spring is in the air, flowers are beginning to bloom and, for a few weeks in May, the coastal areas are full of butterflies chasing each other along the beaches. May is also the beginning of the turtle lying season. The temperature is beginning to rise and the sun is shining more and more. During this time of the year the busiest periods are Easter weekend and Spring Break.

 June – July – August

During this period the weather becomes exceptionally hot! It can also rain, but these showers can be cooling and sometimes they’re so quick they’ll leave you wondering if it rained at all. Turtle nesting and hatching season continues through this period until around late October. This is again a very popular season and can get as busy as it does hot! Watch yourself under the blazing sun in the height of the day and remember to pack plenty of sunscreen (biodegradable) and drink lots of water.

 September – October

Although still very hot this is typically the hurricane season for the Caribbean area and tropical storms come through and clear the air, although this won’t last for long and the humidity rises again quickly. However, having these storms doesn’t mean that it’s not going to be sunny as well; we still average 7-9 hours of sunlight during this part of the year. This is also low season and the time when you will find the lowest prices, for airfares and accommodation. So don’t let the chance of rain deter you, the sun is still packing in the heat!
