Located just off the main drag, bars and popular restaurants flank this unassuming spot in the evenings. However, Ki’bok is the best spot for an espresso and breakfast/lunch before partying in the evening. The food is great, and definitely has a unique flavor compared to most of the local spots, but the espresso is the crowning achievement here. The Hemingway (not to be confused with the cocktail) is a must-try for anyone who might normally grab a cappuccino. Baristas pull brown sugar with the espresso which sweetens the drink perfectly, and just a bit of steamed milk doesn’t overpower the great coffee taste. The interior and back courtyard also provide a lovely seating area, and wi-fi makes it great for writing if your Hemingway inspired you!
A great spot for Italian food among many in Tulum, Campanella excels at their great gelato. Open until 11pm, it’s a great evening spot. And if you want more than just gelato, their pastries, cakes, and tiramisù are superb! Good coffee options and espresso– why not combine the two and get an affogato (espresso poured over a scoop of gelato)? With so many delicious sweets, you may just have to go back to try something else!
This is a wonderful spot for breakfast, with a great mix of espresso drinks, juices, and sandwiches/bagels. They also offer more expected Mexican breakfast options, like great breakfast burritos–no matter the real country of origin. Like many spots in Tulum, the wall of Babel is entirely open to the avenida for a great tropical breeze.
A beautiful interior full of unique local art, the Tulum Art Club is a great place for breakfast or lunch. Certainly more trendy, and with admittedly higher prices to reflect it, the food is still great and options varied, from avocado toast, to local fruit & yogurt. As with Ki’bok, the kitchen closes around 4pm, so after that you’ll have to stick with great espresso drinks. Certain nights even have special events like music, independent movie viewings, and drawing nights. Be sure to check their schedule for an interesting event!
