Soliman Bay on the Riviera Maya

Soliman Bay

Soliman Bay is a unique spot on the Riviera Maya, and a must-see for anyone looking for the perfect Caribbean beach. This spot, found along the coast between Akumal and Tulum, is the best-kept secret of the area.

It is a pristine beach with all the white sands, warm waters, and palmtrees one expects of a tropical paradise. But Soliman Bay has the added benefit of complete seclusion. Unlike the bustling areas in Cancun or Playa, Solimon Bay is a tropical treat all to yourself. Not only will you get the peace and quiet you want, but this bay is protected by a coral reef. The water is delightfully shallow, and almost completely calm on even the choppiest of days. The clear waters also show straight to the beautiful coral reef and schools of fish swimming around the area. This beach is a perfect spot for kids to play while parents relax.

What to do?

If you get hungry from snorkeling, be sure to check out one of the restaurants or taco stands on the beach for antojitos or drinks. Try some of the freshest ceviche from local fish as you relax on the beach, or maybe just a tropical drink. For those looking for adventure, check out a kayaking and snorkeling trip through Soliman Bay Tours, and get a chance to paddle your way out to the reef before taking in all the beauty through snorkel goggles and a refreshing swim!

Things to know

As the beach is in a coral reef, however, it can be helpful to bring flip-flops or water shoes. You’ll want to avoid seashells and broken coral that adorn the sand and seafloor. There is also a 100 peso (about $5.50) fee per person to enter the pristine part of paradise. Some also warn to expect the possibility of sargasso seaweed on the beach. It’s a natural event, but it can be surprising to those who aren’t used to it!
